Why upgrade to Exchange Server 2010?

Table of Contents

If your small business is using Exchange Server 2003, you may want to consider upgrading to Exchange Server 2010. Microsoft lists a whole host of improvements and new features, but which ones will make a difference in your business?

In addition to a higher level of reliability, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 can also help you lower costs and enhance user productivity as well. Exchange Server 2010 now has integrated archiving capability, better disaster recovery and enhanced information protection–such as email moderation and automatic email encryption. It also has the flexibility to run on-site, as a Microsoft-hosted service or a combination of both.

After upgrading to Exchange Server 2010, your users will notice a new, consistent interface across the PC, browser and phone. The inbox, calendar and contacts experience has been reworked with the user in mind. Users are able to access email, voicemail, instant messages, and SMS text messages directly from their inbox using any of the major web browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox and Chrome).

The Outlook Web App now allows users to share calendars with people inside and outside your company. They can view multiple calendars side by side in Outlook Web App and use the Scheduling Assistant to schedule meetings with people inside and outside the organization.

In Outlook, the new conversation view brings together information across all mail folders and also provides a text preview of voicemail messages in the inbox. Users can remove themselves from irrelevant conversations, and the new Mail Tips will notify users about potential mistakes before sending an email.

Microsoft will still officially support Exchange Server 2003 until April 2014, so your company still has some time to migrate to Exchange Server 2010.
